About BOOM

BOOM Skateboards and Clothing Company was started in 1992 by industry veteran Frank Edwards, with the help of vert skating legend Andrew Morrison and renowned photographer Andrew Mapstone.

Even though times were hard, they persevered and assembled the hottest skate team in New Zealand. Business grew, and soon they were exporting to Australia.

By 1997 they were the market leaders for Australasia, since the brand had a reputation for quality and affordability, as well as for supporting New Zealand and Australian Skateboarding from the grass roots.

Today, BOOM is one of Australasia's leading skateboard & clothing companies. Currently stocked in 47 New Zealand and 34 Australian stores, as well as their own store (The SK8 Factory at 166 Karangahape Road, Auckland). BOOM is well known for providing quality skateboard hardware and clothing to Kiwi and Aussie skaters alike and has stuck through the highs and lows of the skate industry to support skateboarding for 17 years!

Since 2005, the brand has been attracting a lot of interest from non-skaters who recognise that wearing skate clothing is cool! They also recognise the quality of the product, value-for-money and the innovative, sweet designs!

Whatever the reasons people ride BOOM skateboards or wear BOOM clothing - everyone agrees: "great product, awesome price!"

MD Boom Skateboarding
Boom Vic Park Big Bang (2008)

About Edwards

Edwards Skateboards and Clothing was established in 1978. "My first skateboard was an Edwards!" is a phrase heard almost daily by the Godfather of New Zealand skateboarding, Frank Edwards. An industry veteran and one of the most well known personalities in New Zealand and Australian skateboarding, he has been involved in the skate industry for over 30 years. This year marks the Edwards skateboarding brand's 31st birthday prompting a comeback bigger than skateboarding itself!

A surfer turned skateboarding addict; Frank Edwards started his illustrious career by helping a friend sell some of his skateboard designs to sports shops around New Zealand. He quickly realised there was an opening in the market to sell skateboards for this growing sport phenomenon and in 1978 the iconic Edwards label was born.

Frank teamed up with Australian skateboard designer David Hill, who alone revolutionised the way skateboards were designed. "Dave had world-class design and I am a world-class marketer, the combination was simply dynamite!" explains Frank. Keeping up with demand, Frank opened New Zealand's first skate-only store, Cheapskates in 1981. His philosophy was to provide the up & coming generation with the opportunity to buy quality skateboarding gear at an affordable price and consequently introduced them to an addictive sporting trend that would soon become as popular as mainstream sport.

Selling the Cheapskates franchise in 2001 Edwards decided to return to his roots and original labels. Having developed further popular skating labels with BOOM (1992) and Strobe (1996) he then decided, with the help of his Son, Jonathan and Son-in-law, Sol, to open the SK8 Factory at 166 K Rd in 2008. With a successful concept of providing a product designed by skateboarders for skateboarders, Edwards has cornered a skateboarding market in New Zealand like no other.
